The Wansbeck
True coastal romance.

This historic home is over 100 years and only walking distance from the sea, Oamaru’s Victorian Precinct and the cafes and restaurants of Oamaru. Soak up the atmosphere, amazing food and fine wines and creative Steampunk art forms which Oamaru’s Victorian Precinct has to offer from your home base at The Wansbeck.

From the balcony in the Monterey Room and reminiscent of the vision of Monterey Bay and the romantic Spindrift Inn in California you can experience the majestic view over the town; the vast sweep of the coast rimmed in white surf from Cape Wanbrow sheltering Friendly Bay at the foot of Wansbeck Street and heading North as far as the eye can see.

The House

The Wansbeck which has all the stunning architecture of a historic home is warm and comfortable and suitable for 21st century living.

The house is set high on Wansbeck Street on a large section with panoramic views over Oamaru and out to sea. The house gives a very welcoming impression as you walk up the path. The Wansbeck as a majestic villa has weathered the decades extraordinary well. Nevertheless, there is always something in the beautiful old wooden home that requires attention and we are making repairs where a board or two are showing wear and tear. The bathrooms which were in sore need of renovation now provide for our guests a very comfortable service.

All guest rooms have Queen beds with plush bedding, hardwood floors and lush rugs and amazing views over Oamaru and the Pacific Ocean. The Monterey Room, our premier guest room provides your own fridge stocked with local delights, your own TV and coffee maker.
